Gardens of Event.

Exhibition at Galerie Ron Mandos, Amsterdam. 23.11.2024 – 05.01.2025

Gardens of Event, by Geert Mul at Galerie Ron Mandos in Amsterdam, explores how subjective, site-, and time-specific experiences of nature can be captured and reimagined in a data-driven culture. The exhibition combines “nature photo/data-graphy” with AI-generated video works, examining the interplay between intuitive, sensory perception and the logic of technological media.
For Mul, nature is not a subject but a conceptual motif. The exhibition’s title references the Garden of Eden, highlighting the Western cultural construct of nature as separate from humanity and culture—a concept contrasted with Japanese perspectives, where humans and nature coexist as divine. Mul argues that all definitions of nature, whether anthropocentric, biocentric, or ecocentric, are cultural constructs shaped by power dynamics.
By embracing nature as a subjective cultural creation, Mul seeks to redefine it as something humans can consciously shape, not to alter its essence but to envision a more harmonious and humane relationship with the world.
